Report on the Board of Directors/Finance Committee meeting of January 21, 2016

Everyone was present from all three sites.  We started with a check-in and then launched in to the draft of the year end financials.  The Board members were informed the staff appreciated their bonuses both in the Directors Reports and in person.  They were glad to hear the feedback and to see from the financials that we are on firm footing.  All sites are earning money.  Portland has two clients on board!

Annie left after the fiscal questions were done.  The board then heard a Mission Moment from Eric about how he discusses our unique features.  Michael Stein liked Eric’s way of framing Windhorse and suggested that he also speak to the benefits that come of those features.  When Eric finishes his document, we will post it as well as send a copy to the Board.

The next mission moment will be from the West Coast.  The next meeting is the third Tuesday in March, 3/15/2016.  Cynthia and Eric stayed beyond finance and the mission moment as witnesses.  You are welcome to join the Skype congregating of our three sites.  There are two potential new Board members from Portland anticipated for March.

Spirit, Victoria, and Lisa were charged with considering which metrics would be helpful in addition to the financial ones already captured in Annie’s narratives.  They are also considering a process for tracking Board agenda items that are pending, tasks, or planning.

There is a draft of the minutes available if you would like more information.  Or feel free to ask Victoria, Spirit, Michael, David, Eric or Cynthia!

New to the Windhorse Library

The Body Keeps the Score

The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk M.D.

“Every once in a while, a book comes along that fundamentally changes the way we look at the world. Bessel van der Kolk has written such a book. The arc of Van der Kolk’s story is vast and comprehensive, but he is such a skillful storyteller that he keeps us riveted to the page. I could not put this book down. It is, simply put, a great work.”
—Stephen Cope, founder and director, Kripalu Institute for Extraordinary Living; author of Yoga and the Quest for the True Self

When the Sun Bursts

When the Sun Bursts: The Enigma of Schizophrenia by Christopher Bollas

“In this absorbing, elegant, and uplifting new book, Christopher Bollas takes the reader on a personal odyssey through schizophrenia. In an era of biological reductionism, Bollas reminds us that no one we encounter in our work is completely out of reach by another human being. We all owe Bollas a debt of gratitude for keeping alive the flame with this extraordinary contribution.”
—Glen O. Gabbard, Baylor College of Medicine
