Visioning Meetings to Inform Next Year’s Budget

In the coming weeks, Windhorse will be engaged in operational planning, which will help influence and inform the creation of next year’s budget. Phoebe, our Clinical Director, will be leading the different realms and role group gatherings of Windhorse through a visioning process as part of this planning procedure.

During these initial visioning meetings Phoebe will ask participants to look ahead one year (or whatever timeframe they are comfortable with) and imagine that they are doing well and that Windhorse is a healthy and smoothly functioning community. She will then ask participants to describe what they see in that image. What is contributing to that state of healthy wellbeing for them and for Windhorse as a whole? What is working? What is happening around them? Compared to the current state of their lives and of Windhorse, what is different in their image of the future?

After Phoebe has met with the various groups she will synthesize the information collected and present it at a meeting next month.  We would like to open up this meeting to the entire community so that all interested community members may hear from Phoebe about the information she collected and what we as a community envision for the future of Windhorse. This meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 5th from 9:30 to 11am in the Windhorse office community room.

After Phoebe presents her synthesis of the material there will be another meeting with all four Steering Committees to discuss a preliminary budget for next year. This meeting is also open to the community so that you may witness how the visioning process is turned into an operational budget. In order to attend this budget meeting we ask that you contact Victoria, our Executive Director, ahead of time so that she knows how many people to expect. The budget meeting will take place on Thursday, October 13th from 9 to 10:30am in the Windhorse office community room. Please call Victoria at the Windhorse office, 413-586-0272 ext. 102, if you plan on attending this budget meeting.

New to the Windhorse Library

imgresThe Myth of Freedom and the Way of Meditation by Chögyam Trungpa

In this book, Chögyam Trungpa explores the meaning of freedom in the profound context of Tibetan Buddhism. He shows how our attitudes, preconceptions, and even our spiritual practices can become chains that bind us to repetitive patterns of frustration and despair. He also explains the role of meditation in bringing into focus the causes of frustration and in allowing these negative forces to become aids in advancing toward true freedom. – from the back cover

Refuge Recovery: A Buddhist Path to Recovering from Addiction by Noah Levine

Refuge Recovery is a Buddhist-oriented, nontheistic recovery program that does not ask anyone to believe anything, only to trust the process and do the hard work of recovery. In fact, no previous experience or knowledge of Buddhism is required. Recovery is possible, and this book provides a systematic approach to treating and recovering from all forms of addictions. When sincerely practiced, the program will ensure a full recovery from addiction and a lifelong sense of well-being and happiness. – from the back cover
